Bossen Block Party: An End of Summer Favorite!

On Saturday, September 19, 2026 we hosted our Annual Bossen Block Party for residents at Bossen Apartments. More than 100 residents came out to enjoy food, activities and community!

NENA and Bossen Apartment's partnership is longstanding, as we've hosted events, provided resources and connected with residents throughout the years. The Bossen Block Party is an opportunity for community to gather in celebration and connectedness. Year after year, it is one of the most anticipated events NENA co-hosts.

In addition to food and games, NENA brings in a host of organizations who provide resources and information to the Bossen Community. Organizations engaged with the community by providing information, playing games and offering activities. From planting plants to tie-dye, the various activities and the accompanying swag was a hit for those attending. This year's organizations included Augsburg Academy, The Minnesota Toy Library, Minneapolis Voter Information, Girl Scouts of River Valley, Twin Cities Rise, Minnesota Families for Public Schools, Meals on Wheels, Hennepin County, Minneapolis Parks & Rec, and Hennepin County Library.

One initiative that was particularly popular at this year's event was free backpacks stuffed with school supplies for students. Over 30 backpacks were given away, each filled with school supplies donated from local organizations as well as the community through a school supply drive hosted by NENA. A very special thank you to Augsburg Fairview Academy for donating the bulk of the backpacks and supplies.

Bryce, Bossen Apartments property manager, once again was at the helm of the grill, cooking up burgers and hot dogs. Food connects people, and this was evident as residents gathered by the food tables, sharing stories and breaking bread together. Beverages and handmade desserts were donated by churches, and sambusas and fry bread were added to the buffet by a couple Bossen residents. There was no shortage delicious food and good cheer!

We extend tremendous gratitude to the organizations who came to table and provide resources and/or activities, event volunteers, local churches and the library for supplying free books, Bryce, Bossen property manager, Mother Nature for stopping the rain right as the party started, and you - the Nokomis East community - for supporting our work, donating school supplies and event items, and recognizing the importance of inclusion and celebration!
